Kelly Killough Art Studio

Kelly Killough Mr. Killough's paintings are primarily produced as oil on canvas or board.  He occasionally works in acrylic, water color or mixed medium if it would best suit the project.  Kelly's original pencil drawings are produced on high quality paper or gessoed and sanded board.  Prints on paper are produced professionally by the offset lithograph method and Kelly is always present to insure that the print is an accurate representation of the original.  Prints on canvas (often referred to as "giclee," a French word meaning 'to spray'), are produced digitally.  The digital image is transferred to sophisticated machinery which produces the image on high quality canvas by "spraying" thousands of micro-dots of ink using up to eight colors.  With the exception of the actual brush stroke texture, the print is a remarkable representation of the original.  Occasionally, the prints are hand enhanced by the artist.  Kelly's prints on canvas are shipped stretched on stretcher bars and ready to frame.

Kelly's contemporary paintings are painted from an expressionist's point of view.  The animals and features within the paintings are representational and color and texture are chosen to enhance the emotional response in the viewer.

Kelly's traditional paintings, both landscape and figure paintings, are created with the intention of capturing a moment in time that is equally romantic and true.  The iconic cowboy on horse back is a universal subject in western art.  The distant sun set, driving rain or the moonlit sky creates the mood.

As an artist, Kelly's first love is painting.  Creating an idea, researching it, working through the design, composition, balance and harmony to create a finished product all contribute to an exciting endeavor.  The joy of producing something that pleases other people is difficult to explain in words.  But, when asked what his favorite compliment has been, Kelly has said, "When I am displaying my work in public, and a young person, ten or twelve years old, stands there in front of the display with their mouth half open and just says 'wow!', that's about as good as it gets."
